Prior to my recent work with Laura through the Carolina Office of Online Learning, I had not experienced working with an instructional designer. I had reservations about teaching virtually because I worried that the energy and excitement of traditional classrooms would be missed online. However, distance learning is a necessity for so many people to continue their personal and professional development.

While working with Laura, I was surprised by the tools that she shared that made the development of the course descriptions and objectives much easier and connected with the overall vision of our project. Although we worked within an established timeframe, we collaborated to create fun and interactive activities and ways for students to show evidence of their learning. In particular, the motivational and real-time elements achieve some of the same outcomes as in-person classes. I was pleased with our creation of quality videos, our planning and outlines for synchronous events, and the overall professional appearance of the courses.
